About potteryheaven

Martina attended the University of Findlay from 1998 to 2005, attaining bachelor’s degrees in Art with an emphasis in Computer Animation and a minor in Japanese and Graphic Communications, and a Master’s in Liberal Studies. Her Master’s Thesis was on the topic of ceramic glazing. During her time at Findlay, she studied under Professor Jack Corel. Findlay only offered two classes in ceramics, but she continued to use the studio and to learn from Professor Corel during her tenure. From the fall of 2006 through the Spring of 2007, she took classes at Bowling Green State University in the 3-D studies – Ceramics program and studied under Professor Joseph Pintz. As a student at The University of Findlay, she participated in many student shows and had a gallery showing for her MALS Thesis in 2004 with two other MALS students, John Gaberdeil and the late Jennifer Fell. After graduation, she continued working on her pottery skills and devoted more time to her pottery business on the weekends and after her day job as a graphic artist in downtown Toledo. One of the things she did to sell her wares was to be a vendor at the Hardin County Farmer’s market in her home town of Kenton, Ohio. In 2006, Ed Corle, UF associate professor, and Martina displayed their work at the 1124 Gallery on The University of Findlay campus in the “Clay in Suspension” exhibit. In 2007, in honor of The University of Findlay’s 125th Anniversary, an Alumni art exhibit was held in the Lea Gallery in the Gardner Pavilion. Martina was among the 26 alumni who showcased their work. In 2008, she moved to Columbus, Ohio to be closer to her boyfriend and got involved in local shows, but continued to participate in the Hardin County Farmer’s Market. Since then, Martina has continued to push her skills and look for new venues to sell her art. In 2009, an Etsy shop was created and a blog was started to keep people up-to-date on current work. In 2010, Martina married Joe and in 2011, they welcomed their first child. Each new adventure is helping to influence and strengthen her work. View all posts by potteryheaven
